This flower was produced by breeding anthurium andraeanum with amnicola to produce a cultivar known as andreacola. Andreacola appears to have received the best traits of each of its ancestor varieties. From the amnicola it received its ability to produce tulip shaped blossoms, its small measurements and its ability to resist the bacterial blight. From the andraeanum it received an ability to produce larger blooms plus a large number of hues, which, obviously, includes purple.
